That situation was also made worse, from what I recall, by Man Utd being a bit opportunistic and hawkish about the price tag after the hip problem was revealed.

I get what you're getting at. And I can't condone the fact that it happened.
But I'm a journalist, and I can tell you that it happened sometimes back then. And it still happens once in a while these days. Sometimes, when transfers are about to take place in the summer (when players tend to head off abroad) photo-shoots take place before the deal is signed and sealed.
The "problem" with the Ince photo is that the deal stalled after the photo was taken, due to his hip (I think?) injury/medical. So he remained a Hammer for a while after it was taken.
Absolute stupidity on part of Ince, Mendy and the club, don't get me wrong. But I've heard similar tales from other clubs, players and hacks.

southbank, I'm not on the attack or looking for an argument but you said he was worse than a prick who had a photo done in another team's shirt while still being paid by west ham. what ince did was as low as it gets, I'll never forgive the snide cunt

Depends on your point of view, MD. Any player asking for himself to be substituted when his team is losing - because he's having a strop - is hardly commendable. It's about as unprofessional as it gets - and it is tantamount to quitting when your team-mates need you.
That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying it makes Di Canio the biggest wanker to play for us - I should make that clear. Just that even he had his moments in a West Ham shirt.
On another note, it's interesting how many of our fans try to tell me how Ince acted at Stoke. You see, I was there - and there weren't that many of us up there that night. Come on here, though, and that night is like the Cable Street riot: everybody in east London seems to infer they were there and saw it all.
Ince stood, for a short period, with his hands on his hips and seemed to have quit the club in that moment. There's no denying it. But I also recall him making several hefty tackles in that game - at least as many as some of our other players. We were god awful at Stoke that night, and Ince's pathetic behaviour made the situation ludicrous. There's no esacaping it. But he never asked to leave the pitch.
Ince, Di Canio or god. You stop playing or trying for West Ham, then you should all be criticised. That's how I see it.

Payet is the only player I know of that flat out refused to play. On top of ridiculous money we'd given him and helped turn him into a superstar.

You can't slag Nolan. It wasn't his fault he got the contract he did.
He also walked away from a large part of it when he knew he was done here, he could easily have sat around and coined it.

He was top scorer for 2 seasons!

Luis Boa Morte, sometimes I wonder if the player or our management were the problem, Luis signed at 30 years old, with us for 5 seasons, played in 109 games, scored 2 and 2 assists.
